WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR 5th ANNUAL AMERICAS CHEF COMPETITION
AT THE 12TH AMERICAS FOOD & BEVERAGE SHOW IN MIAMI

Executive chefs Paul Evans and Michael Priola take 1st place gold in professional division with U.S. Army chef teams taking 2nd and 3rd; Don Ignacio Culinary School wins in student division

MIAMI, FL- The culinary team of Paul Evans, CEC executive chef at Lake Ranch Golf & County and Michael Priola, CEC executive chef at Apollo’s Bistro, earned first place gold medals and $2000 in the two-day Americas Chef Competition at the 12th Americas Food & Beverage Show held at the Miami Beach Convention Center November 9 – 10.

Two teams representing the U.S. Army won big, with chefs Joshua Spiess, CEC and Keith Broome, CEC of the U.S. Army taking the second place gold and chefs Geoffrey Blanchette and Cameron Mitchell, also of the U.S. Army, cooking their way to the third place gold.  Fourth place gold went to Damien Gilchrist, CEC and Steve Bohlman chefs at the Ocean Reef Club. 

The Barbados team of Craig Greenridge and Mitchell Husbands won silver medals, as did the professional team of Alfredo Silva and Christian Salinas representing Don Ignacio Culinary School.  Chefs Douglas Sisk of Atlantis in the Bahamas and Alexander Feher of the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami took 5th place silver with Chefs Ezequiel Navas and Andres Blasco representing Argentina taking home 6th place silver. 

The student team consisting of Jesus Uscategui and Alexandra Zamora took top honors for Don Ignacio Culinary School in the student competition. Le Cordon Bleu students Derrick Alfanador and Ezra Gonzalez were awarded the bronze.

The Americas Chef Competition is held each year at the Americas Food & Beverage Show in accordance with the strict guidelines of the American Culinary Federation (ACF).   This year’s judging panel included chef David St. John Grubb, Foodworks International; chef Rene Marquis, CEC, CCE, PSEC, AAC, US Army and chef Steve Jayson, CEC, AAC, Universal Studio Orlando.

Center of the plate products for this year’s competition were provided courtesy of sponsors Alligator from Florida, Buckhead Beef, Angus Certified Beef, Neiman Ranch, Speigel Meat, U.S. Pork and the U.S. Meat Export Federation. Kitchen equipment, including the latest in cooking appliances, was generously provided by Electrolux, Lowe and Atlantic Coast Fire.
